If the only way to make Diesel work in passenger cars is to actually have it not work, then maybe we should stop. Diesel is for trucks and tractors.

It does work, you just can’t skimp on the exhaust after treatment like VW tried to.

Even though we’re kinda looking at a new commuter car for my wife right now, all this does NOT make me want to buy a German diesel, despite that being an excellent choice otherwise.

With diesel for passenger cars, you get to pick two:
Power
Fuel efficiency
Meeting emissions regulations

I don’t think so, because VAG has proven they can’t get power, fuel economy and emissions out of any of their diesels.

That’s why I added two to the list - they went for power, fuel economy, and low cost, with emissions compliance and reliability being the dump stats.
